may i ask who is on my party line?

i have pneumonia so for the next five days it will be movies, sleeping, trying to read a book, lack of concentration, throwing the book down, sleeping, watching movies. its a wonderful cycle, oui?

-The Unknown (lon chaney as an armless knife thrower who crushes hard on his female target, who so happens to hate the male touch. everything else is a bonus!)
-Pulp (Michael Caine in the 70's)
-The Odessa File (Jon Voight as a german trying to shut down the SS, pretty good, i like the Ronald Neame.)
-I am a camera (i thought i would like this better then cabaret, funny.)
-Blithe Spirit (i dont remember much of it except they should have named it 'ghost wife')
-Gaslight (really fricken amazing george cukor film, would make a good double feature with 'bunny lake is missing')
-The Power and the Glory (known as one of preston sturgis's financial disasters, pretty good little precursor to 'citizen kane' oddly touching)
-The Good Thief (Nick Nolte shot up in prep for this role, i shit you not; the proof is on screen, interesting remake however)
-Elevator to the Gallows (fates a chump! great ending, great opening shot, pretty great!)
-Crash (f' this movie, all i got from it is that female asians are bad drivers, white men with money are dicks, black guys carry guns, unless they have money, in that case they are spineless, women are bitches, but then sometimes female asians arne not bad drivers, sometimes white men with money arent dicks, black guys dont always carry guns, and black guys with money sometimes find thier spines. Women however remain bitches throughout eternity.)

the key lime pry...

-THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON (crazy good, yo.)
-The Proposition (interesting complicated and graphic)
-DEATH OF MR. LAZARESC (the most non manipulative, manipulative movie ive seen this year, really great)
-The Great Mcginty (s'ok kind of manic, funny, but waywardly paced)
-Miracle of Morgan's Creek (good stuff! happiest ending ever)
-Day of the Dolphin (george c. scott and dolphin suicide bombers, can you go wrong?)
-Croupier (i think i love the clive owen)
-Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (ep 1 & 2) (good times for talky spy television)
-The Horses Mouth (maybe i wasnt in the mood but i found this really eh')
-The running, jumping & standing still film (if i could be anyone, id want to be the 60's Richard Lester)
-Sonic Cinema at Northwestern (The Lonesome Organist played over old silent film live, it was really nice.)

Lots of Scrubs Season 3 (how can you hate scrubs?)

im so sleepy. its not even funny.
this final grandaddy cd makes me sad.
so-well.

squid de'lust

Tom yum goong
more crazy muy thai martial arts, from the cats
who brought us ong-bak. how people didnt
die making this is beyond me. this holds a place
in my heart as far as crazy message carrying
action movies go. the message being; dont
hurt elephants. crazy.

The Professionals
pretty action packed western. go for the
lee marvin, stay for a younger jack palence
as a mustache wielding mexican revolutionary.

MADIGAN!
Another Don Siegel outing, eh. so kay, kind of
a riff on Kurosawa's Stray Dog, not particularly
great, racial tension, crooked cops, moral
ambiguity, meh' with a name like "madigan"
it needs to be yelled no one even comes
close to screaming his name, maybe thats
what is missing.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped
Romain Duris is on my watch list, he is so good in this!
makes me want to go and rent lupin right now. pretty
good piece of suspense. some genuinely sensual shots.
pretty good all around! this would go on a top ten list
for last year.

the good ol'e maze

Wow, good movies as of late! life is good!
mine lappy es back!! les we celebrate!

Mission impossible: 3
seriously, this movie is to much fun, it has not right to be
this fun, some really fun set pieces. Its really nice to see
them try to make the impossible seem plausible, kind of
like the whole batman begins thing. pretty good. its a perfect
theater movie.

The Killers (don siegel)
FRICKEN HARSH! really good, really dark, ronald regan
and lee marvin; peanut butter and chocolate. im starting to
really dig this don siegel.

White Heat
also pretty harsh, lots of hate, lots of killing James Cagney
plays a cagey mamas boy. kinda creepy. pretty good. nice heist
to set the movie off.

gotta a bunch of fun stuff coming up.
i will have the happiest kung-fu monday.
