Antoine Doinel.

This week starts a week of Francoise Truffaut
Films. After two films and a host of extras; i don't want it to end.
I have started with the Antoine Doinel series that criterion put out,
HOLY GOD ITS SO GOOD!!! not just the movies, the disks are
flat out fantastic!!!
I wrote this huge post for 400 blows the other night, but after
viewing Stolen Kisses, i waited to post it, i wish to write about
the set when i finish. BUT! suffice to say, its going on my favorites list!!!
Stolen Kisses is the second amazing movie experience of the week.
Its getting to a point where im concentrating on so many great movies,
everything else is just going to seem limp from now on.

I started Antoine De Baecque's Biography of Truffaut this afternoon,
it just make me giddy to read about Truffaut's place in French Film History.
(Film Clubs, Henri Langlois's Cinematheque, Cahiers du Cinéma and that french new wave thing)
anywho, so far its a good read! (gossipy) but good!

oh. And sometime i should speak up for Mutual Appreciation.
it too took a little chunk out of me.

sometimes its rather difficult being harry potter

Hello,

this weekend was:

Harry Potter
Mutual Appreciation
Throne Of Blood
Partner

Scrubs season 2

and the first chapter (1A)
of Godard's
Histoire(s) du cinema

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GUSH WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but whats most important;
Harry Potter was good.
ok, not as great as 3, but
still it was a fine adventure
for potter and co. I have a
bag full of nitpickerys
but dont let that detract
from my first statement,
tis a fine film.
So, to start the film was way to
short, horribly short, its 150 minutes
and never do you get to spend any time with
the kids in class, Nor do you get to see anyone
partake in fine holiday feasts! I miss the sense of
traditional feasts. The teachers, minus dumbledor
and moody were in the movie for all of 2.4 minutes!
snape got a scene, ONE! thats all! there was a lack of hermoine's
house elf adventures, but that really wasn't missed, not much to any
sirius, he only appeared once, and that was just his voice, i thought
he had more talks with harry. about moody and stuff... i could be
wrong.
there are a ton more nitpicks i cant think of right now.
Out with the bad in with the good;
There were some amazing scenes that made this one super good;
EVERY SCENE WITH NEVILE!!!!! you name it, he is hands down my
favorite potter cat! the weaslys, all of them, steal the rest of
scenes in the movie. Smart idea to always keep the twins nearby
to balance out the drama. Hermoine is cute! Cho has man nose!
which is totally ok because she has a fricken scottish accent!!!
(asian girls with weird accent, are the new cat pajamas) Moaning Murttle
had the most sexual scene in the entire series so far, she was trying
to love up a naked harry potter in a bath, she kept rubbing on him
and trying to mount the potter's bare lap. it was strange. but i liked it.
the dragon trial was really tense stuff. good times. NEVILE AGAIN!!!!
he had one scene that was so PERFECT!!!!! "OMG" the first scene in class
with mad eye moody was such a perfectly crafted scene, by the end of it
i was so happy to see such a complex scene of emotions in a kids movie
it starts with suspense, then drama, then humor then suspense followed by gitty
laughter then ending on the darkest realization. it was so pefect!
then out of nowhere the scene was one up'd by neville's reaction to the class room,
and its such a small cliche' scene. But so perfect OMG!!! no one else i was with
cared about it, or had one feeling or another about it. BUT MAN!!!!! it is so good
i almost lost it. i did one of those quiet raspy "owwww" things in the theater.
so good.
anyway. theres allot of amazing moments to be had in the movie.
i would go back again. good times. Rachel i hope you get to see it soon.

yeah...um.
also. im kind of
excited about this.
i just bought myself
a christmas/b-day present.
its not like super expensive
amazing but its pretty perfect
for me:

its 480P 1080i
its fully 16x9 and HD through and through.
its no one of them fancy thin TV's its big,
its still a crt, but so much cheaper and
better looking then all the LCD's and
Projection TV's (im leaving the DLP plasmas
out of this cause them shakes be smooth)
so yeah. it was a bargin. I ordered it refurb
with free shipping for.... $350.
i am excitement. (i can hook my laptop
up to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
im a dork.

and further furthermore...

Kurosawa week is in full swing, i kicked it off early this morn
with the amazing Yojimbo. Its nice when a movie completely
shatters your expectations. I even want a copy of the score,
and im not a huge score fanatic!

today's menu
Yojimbo
Sanjuro

>hot doug break<
(southern bbq dog
with cheddar, mustard,
coleslaw on a deli bun
rock!)

Sarah Silvermen: Jesus is Magic (Theatrical)
Seven Samurai

So far, im a pretty big fan of what i see,
Kurosawa wise, Jesus is Magic: not really
a movie begging for a theatrical release,
not funny enough to see in a theater,
or to own. It'd be ok to catch on TV. It
pretty much echos what i thought of
the Aristocrats, funny, but nothing
special; few moments of actual brilliance.

Im a sucker for movies which contain
absolute unwaveringly noble characters.
Seven Samurai hit me hard. Im not
a big fan of movies where the protagonist
learns a valuable life lesson after reluctantly
taking on a cause based on whatever reason
the plot needs. There is an unshakable feeling
of nobility in all of Seven Samurai's leads,
and it just kills me. Same for Yojimbo and Sanjuro,
Mifune just radiates honor and class in everything
he does in these two, no matter how hard boiled he seems.
Im pretty much stating the obvious, but dammit!
i have a lot of love for this type of character
and its a treat to see them anymore. (done well at least)

ok, im off to bed,
hopefully Stray Dog and Hidden Fortress
work out tomorrow.
